This past week was a good one. We hosted a great group of eight anglers from AZ fly shop located in Phoenix Arizona. It was an eventful trip with the group catching a variety of species from both the shore as well as the boat.
Along the beach there were many rooster fish this week giving anglers targeting them many opportunities. The fish were anywhere between five and fifty pounds. The anglers that fished the beach were able to land a few smaller rooster fish but hooked five fish in the double digit class but we’re not able to land any of them. This was a very new experience for them as most of the anglers had only fresh water experience. The power and speed of a larger saltwater fish when hooked was new to them and their ”trout setting” of the fly instead of strip striking is why they missed a few fish in the beginning but they got the hang of it and got some good fish landed.
Out of the boat this past week we had good action for a variety of fish. We got some good dorado action on the bouys with one very nice fish of about thirty pounds.
Also offshore the fishing for tuna continued to produce. We found schools of porpoise outside a out 25 miles and as soon as we got flies in the water we had fish on. We had multiple double hookups throughout the day giving us plenty of action.
Also on the outside we continue to see some decent fishing for marlin. Two of the anglers in the group chased marlin with me for a day. We raised a few fish and had one really good fish that in the end just ended up missing the fly on the take and then was gone. We spent another morning looking for billfish but the rooster fishing from the boat was just to good to pass up.
Overall we had good fishing for the entire group with all anglers having multiple shots at a variety of species throughout the week and plenty if action for everyone.
It was a great week and we look forward to seeing the anglers from AZ fly shop next year on their annual trip. If your in the Phoenix area look them up as they have a wonderful shop.
We will be on the water this week once again. Please be sure to check back here for the latest fishing conditions. Until then we wish everyone good fishing.
