Santa brings great fishing

Hello everyone,

we hope everyone had a great Christmas. We just finished up our season in Magdalena Bay and are now back home in the East Cape getting ready for our season in Cabo San Lucas.

Santa brought fish to all fishing grounds this year. As we finished up our Magdalena Bay season the fishing continued to be outstanding and did not show signs of slowing down. Our last week in Magdalena Bay was some of the best fly fishing for marlin and dorado we had seen all year. We had slick calm seas with feeding marlin and dorado all round the boat. The bait remains plentiful with large schools of bait coming to the surface and being harassed by game fish. The fish continue to be in the same area as they have been for the past couple of weeks.

I think the blue water fishing in Magdalena Bay will continue to be good as long as the weather cooperates. Eventually the fish will move but right now they are happy right where they are.

Here in the East Cape we continue to see decent fishing for dorado and a few marlin from the boats. We have a few Rooster fish and Sierra from the beach. I went out on Christmas Day to fish the beach and even though the North winds were blowing I was able to get a couple roosters on my spinning rod. If you get out early before the winds pick up you have a good chance. You never know what will happen. This morning I witnessed a fly fishing angler land a nice dorado from the beach as he was looking for rooster fish. Another angler was cut off a couple times by the sierra that were pushing the bait out of the water within casting range. The wind definitely causes difficulty this time of year but if you take advantage of the windows of opportunity when the wind is down things definitely have been productive here in the East Cape.

We will have guests in Cabo just after the start of the new year. In talking with captains I know the report is that there are a decent number of marlin being caught between Los Arcos and the light house. The marlin are eating both lures and bait that are being trolled. In the same area but a little closer to shore there is good action for Dorado.

If you’re looking to fish inshore in Cabo there are Sierra starting to show in the area of Migrino. There have been the occasional school of jacks and a few small roosters a little further to the South.

There is lots of good fishing currently in the area. We will be on the water over this holiday season and we will be sure to let you know what kind of action we find. We hope everyone has a great holiday season. Until next time we wish everyone holiday cheer and great fishing.
