April begins with good fly fishing action

As April begins we continue to find the good fly fishing action that we have experienced the last couple of weeks. This past week we fished out of Cabo San Lucas as well as Los Barriles with some very good fishing in both locations.

Los Barriles continues to see good fishing on the non windy days. The windy season is just about over but we still are experiencing some windows of wind. On the days that the wind was down this past week, and the boats could get out, the fishing remained steady. Some very nice dorado as well as a few marlin. The dorado being caught in Los Barriles have been mostly larger single fish. The best bite for the dorado this past week was to slow troll green jacks. Most of the marlin were on the smaller side averaging sixty to eighty pounds and were caught on both green jacks as well as slow trolled ballyhoo.

A little further North at the island we continue to see good numbers of sardines giving us good bait for chum. We had good action for rooster fish as well as a few dorado and jacks that showed up as we were checking different spots with the bait. The fishing is picking up in the East Cape. It looks like its going to be a very good spring for fly fishing anglers looking to chase the multiple species Baja has to offer.

We also spent a few days last week fishing out of Cabo San Lucas as well as San Jose del Cabo with great results. San Jose currently also has a good population of sardines. Using the sardines to bring up the fish and then cast flies to the fish boiling around the boat we had excellent action for rooster fish, jacks, sierra mackerel, as well as a few dorado that showed up in the mix.

Rooster on the fly!

Over on the Pacific side out of Cabo San Lucas we experienced some large swells with some very impressive breaking waves smashing onto the beaches. We fished just outside these impressive waves and had awesome action for jacks, roosters, and sierra mackerel.

Nothing like a jack on the fly

As April begins the fly fishing should just get better and better over this month. We should continue to see the winds subside here in the East Cape along with water temperatures in crease bringing in more bait and ultimately more fish. Spring time here in Baja is one of our favorite times to fly fish Baja Come join us and we will show you why.
