We continue to see typical wintertime wind patterns across Baja California Sur, with windy afternoons remaining common, particularly along the East Cape. Mornings, however, have generally been calm until around 10:00 a.m., giving anglers a solid early window to get on the water. During these calmer conditions there have been opportunities for limited shore casting, especially when bait is pushed close to the beach.

In the very early morning hours, starting around sunrise, schools of small baitfish have been working tight to shore. During this time we’ve been seeing sierra mackerel along with small roosterfish actively harassing that bait. When this happens, anglers have legitimate chances to hook fish from the beach before the wind begins to build later in the morning.

Boat fishing has remained productive when conditions allow. Small dorado continue to show sporadically, along with the occasional roosterfish moving along beaches and structure. Yellowtail have also been caught by anglers jigging deeper water. In the Los Barriles and La Ribera area, white bonita have been providing steady action for boats working iron and vertical jigs.
Out of San José del Cabo, tuna fishing has been improving. Boats have been encountering larger-grade fish, often associated with porpoise schools and offshore structure. While most of this fishing continues to favor conventional tackle, it has been encouraging to see quality tuna in the area.

Inshore fishing around San José del Cabo has been fishing fairly well, with jacks, sierra mackerel, and the occasional roosterfish providing consistent action, particularly during the morning hours. For fly anglers, these species continue to be the primary targets. Sierra, jacks, and small to medium roosterfish have offered the most realistic fly opportunities under current conditions.
Around Cabo San Lucas, offshore action has remained strong. There has been good marlin fishing reported, especially in and around the Finger Bank, where boats have been seeing consistent signs of billfish. This area continues to produce some of the better blue and striped marlin opportunities of the season.
Weather conditions have been comfortable overall, with nighttime lows in the mid to upper 60s and daytime highs averaging around 80 degrees. While the East Cape continues to see afternoon wind, these temperatures have made for pleasant days both on and off the water.

Because of the wind pattern, much of our recent fishing has been focused out of San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, where protection and consistency have been better day to day. We are currently running and booking trips in both locations and are happy to help anglers plan around current conditions.
