Baja California Sur Fly-Fishing Report – Mid-August

As we head into mid-August here in Baja California Sur, summer is in full swing with daily highs in the mid-90s and humidity reminding us that it’s storm season. We had a small system roll through two or three days ago, dropping some much-needed rain, and we’ve been seeing occasional afternoon showers in some areas since—though not every day. This is the time of year we keep one eye on the water and the other on the weather charts.

On the fishing front, things are holding steady with overall fair action. Along the beaches, a few roosterfish are still in the mix for those putting in the time, and there are also opportunities from the boat for roosters patrolling just offshore. A few dorado are beginning to show, hinting at what’s to come as we get later into the season.

Offshore, the billfish bite has been okay, with the occasional blue marlin, striped marlin, and sailfish making appearances. Down south, the tuna bite over the last couple of days has been fair, giving anglers something extra to chase when conditions line up.

While mid-August can bring unpredictable weather and shifting fishing patterns, there’s still plenty of action for those willing to adapt. Staying flexible with your target species and ready to move when conditions change will keep rods bent and anglers smiling.
