Baja Fly Fishing Report – June Kickoff: Tropical Storm Alvin, Tuna Blitz, and Roosters on the Shoreline

Last weekend marked the unofficial start to our summer season with the first tropical activity of the year. Tropical Storm Alvin made a brief appearance in Baja California Sur, but it had little to no effect on our fishing conditions. Rainfall was minimal, winds were manageable, and we continued fishing right through the system without missing a beat.

Offshore Action:

The yellowfin tuna bite has been red-hot, running anywhere from 20 to 35 miles offshore, primarily under porpoise schools. The tuna are aggressive and hungry, with fish ranging from football size up to 80–90 pounds. It’s been consistent action for boats targeting them, and the conditions offshore have been ideal with calm seas and plenty of life.

Billfish:

There’s a solid marlin presence in the area as well. While not wide open, boats targeting billfish are seeing fish daily and getting multiple shots. If you’re willing to commit time to the hunt, there’s a very good chance of connecting.

Inshore:

Snapper fishing has been productive right off the beaches in front of the marina. A good option for light tackle anglers looking for some tasty action close to shore.

Roosterfish:

Roosterfish action has been excellent. We’re seeing schoolie to grande-size roosters cruising the shoreline, and with some patience, anglers are getting multiple quality shots per day. Offshore, some boats are also encountering roosters along with a few jacks in deeper water.

Conditions:

The weather is warming, and the humidity is starting to rise, signaling the start of our classic summer pattern. We’ve had calm mornings, light winds, and perfect fishing conditions. The forecast looks favorable heading into the weekend, with more good fishing days ahead.

until next time we wish everyone great fishing.
