Cabo San Lucas & East Cape Fly Fishing Report | Southern Baja Conditions Update

I’m currently wrapping up a full week of fishing here in Cabo San Lucas, and it’s honestly been one of those weeks where everything lined up just right. The weather has been absolutely spectacular — calm seas, little to no wind, bright sunshine, and temperatures sitting in the low 80s every day.

Fishing inside and close to shore has been the highlight. We’ve been seeing plenty of quality roosterfish, with most fish falling in that 15–40 pound range, and they’ve been active and willing. There have also been some nice schools of sierra cruising the shoreline along with the occasional schools of jack crevalle keeping things very interesting throughout the week.

Offshore fishing has been slower overall. There have been a few scattered marlin and the occasional dorado, but this week has definitely favored the nearshore program over the bluewater bite.

I’ll be heading back to the East Cape this weekend where we’ve got trips lined up, and reports from my captain over there sound encouraging. Winds have actually been fairly calm this past week as well, and there are roosterfish around along with some skipjack showing up to the north. There’s been the occasional dorado and billfish caught, and we’re starting to see more activity building along the beaches, which is always a good sign moving forward. There was actually some tuna found yesterday out with the porpoise. It’s looking like it’s going to be a good year.

That said, we’re still not out of the windy season yet on the East Cape. We’ve likely got another month or so of spring winds ahead of us, so fishing will remain a bit of a day-by-day situation depending on conditions. Some mornings will be perfect, others we’ll work around the breeze — just part of fishing this time of year here. The good news is when the weather lines up, the fishing has been very solid and it feels like the season is starting to take shape.

Our calendar is filling up quickly as we move toward the spring season, but we still have a few dates available over the coming weeks. If you’ve been thinking about making a trip down to fish Southern Baja, now is a great time to start planning. Reach out anytime and we’ll check the schedule together and see what we can line up around the best tides and conditions.
