Mag Bay End of Season Update

I am beginning to wrap up my season here in Magdalena Bay. After being on the water since October 1st, it’s time for me to shift back toward my next locations, even though there are still fish in the area. The wrap-up is based on my schedule, not because the fishing has finished.

Marlin

We have continued to see very good marlin numbers. The water cooled down and turned a little green in spots, and that change slowed the bite somewhat compared to the peak stretch, but there are still plenty of marlin around. Every day has presented opportunities.

As we move deeper into December, these fish will hang around a little longer before eventually thinning out. For now, there is still marlin to be found and conditions remain productive.

Roosterfish

Along with the marlin, we have enjoyed good roosterfish action when conditions line up. Several quality fish have been caught over the last part of the season and they have added a fun highlight to the program. We have also had some good action on species like call golden jacks, grouper, and Corvina.

Weather & Conditions

The weather has been warmer than expected this year. Normally mornings are much cooler in December, but this season has been mild:

  • Comfortable mornings
  • Warm afternoons
  • Minimal wind

We have had many nice days on the water, and the coming week looks favorable, making for a strong finish to the season.

Season Transition

I will be here for about another week before returning to Los Barriles.

Just after Christmas, I will be traveling to the Bahamas for about ten days. When I return, I will begin guiding back and forth between Cabo and San José, along with taking reservations for my Los Barriles season.

As I mentioned above I am now accepting reservations for the upcoming seasons. This includes next year here in Mag Bay, as well as spring and summer in Los Barriles, and this winter guiding back and forth between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. If you’re interested in fishing any of these locations, feel free to reach out for dates and availability — I’d be happy to get you on the schedule.
