Mid August provides excellent tuna action

This past week in the East Cape we experienced some good fishing over all. The main species that was caught was yellowfin tuna. The tuna have been between twenty five and fifty miles from the hotel. They have been very good sized fish with the average fish being between thirty and forty pounds with lots of fish in the one hundred to one thirty range being caught.

We also continue to see a decent bite for blue marlin and sailfish with a few stripe marlin mixed in. They have been a little “on and off” but they are here. The best spots this past week were off Leonero about twenty three miles or to the South off of Cabo Pulmo about the same distance.

As far as dorado they are far and few between. I know of only one small one that was caught this past week. We have not seen the dorado this year like last year.

Inshore the water is starting to clear up after a few days of green water. The green water extended offshore a couple of miles but is getting better daily. I spent a day on the beach and we only saw two rooster fish all day. With the water starting to clear up I think the beach fishing will improve.

Overall the fishing is good currently. We will see what this next week brings.  I will be in Mexico City this next week but will be sure to let you know the latest conditions when I return. Have a good week.
