Hello everyone,
This past week the amazing fly fishing action for rooster fish we have been experiencing the past couple weeks continues. We are seeing very good fly fishing for rooster fish both in the waters close to home as well as a little further North by the island.

The best action we have seen has been in the area from the light house to the bay at Palmas de Cortez hotel. Most of the fish have been in slightly deeper water just offshore a few hundred yards. Our best action this week was in water between 18 and 24 feet deep.

The fish were all between five and about fifteen pounds with some bigger fish mixed in. There has been really good action for bigger fish to the North but there is a lot of boats and pressure on them. My guests this week opted to stay closer to home and even though the fish were smaller, we didn’t see another boat the entire week!!

Other than the rooster fish we have some action for dorado. There has been some dorado very close to shore this past week chasing small flying fish. There were a handful of anglers who caught them from the beach. We had a few show up as we were fishing for rooster fish and were lucky enough to get a couple.

Along the beach we are seeing lots of anglers and the beach feels crowded on some days. The fishing from the beach has been fair this past week with a few roosters cruising the shallower water but once again we found most of our fish further out in the slightly deeper water.

This past week was all about the rooster fish. This week we will not only fish for roosters from both the boat as well as the beach but we will be doing some exploring offshore to see if we can find a few marlin or tuna to throw our flies at as we are approaching the time of year when they start to show up in our area. We will be sure to report here what we find this week. Until next time we wish everyone great fishing.
