Hi folks,
Well, it’s been a rainy couple of days here in East Cape, Baja. Earlier in the week, we had a tropical storm roll into the area and it dumped a fair amount of rain as it passed through.
The rain has now stopped, but the inside water is still a bit off-color, preventing us from fishing the beach for roosterfish. The good news is that the the bite is still going strong for sailfish, tuna and dorado.
On my way back from Cabo today, I saw a few boats fishing less than a mile off shore, targeting tuna with porpoise. The tuna bite is hot at the moment, and there are some really big fish in the mix. I heard from a captain whose boat landed a 150-pound tuna the other day, and he did mention they broke off several in the 200-pound range!
Sailfish are still on the bite, and several sails are being caught daily inshore where the water is warmest. The sailfish bite will continue to stay active for a month or so, at which point the water will start to cool off and the striped marlin fishing will pick up.
Dorado are still being found in schools with porpoise. We are very lucky to have such a healthy fishery where we can target dorado all summer long here in East Cape, Baja.
The marina is still fishing well even though the water is a bit off color from the rain. Jacks, baby roosters, pargo and ladyfish are all keeping anglers busy. A six-weight rod is ideal for the marina.
This coming up week, the water should clear up nicely, and we will have open skies and lots of sunshine!
